This morning announcement on the Barack Obama campaign website of the naming of Sen. Joe Biden as possible VP, has launched the Delaware senator in to the spotlight of the international media.

Joe Biden was born in a working class family, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, as the son of Joseph R. Biden, Sr. and Catherine Eugenia “Jean” Finnegan. After graduating from Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware with a double major in history and political science, went on to study law and was admitted in the Delaware bar in 1969.

He’s the father of two sons and a daughter from two marriages. Biden lost his first wife, and a daughter in a car accident.  His eldest son Beau is a member of Delaware Army National Guard and he’s to be deployed to Iraq later this year, to serve in the Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps.

Joe Biden was elected first at the age of 30, proving himself as a skilled debater. As member of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Biden was involved in the writing of many federal crime laws, including the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, also known as the Biden Crime Law. He was also in charge of the Violence Against Women Act of 1994, which contains a broad array of measures to combat domestic violence.

As member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Commity, Sen. Biden was involved in solving the Balcan crisis and he traveld repeteadly to the region. The fact that Sen. Biden has a vast experience in foreign policy, will help the Obama campaign that fares poorly on this compared to the Republicans.
