Angel Matos of Cuba, has kicked the referee in face after being disqualified from the bronze medal match. Matos was leading with 3:2, when he asked for time for medical treatment, he and his trainer had passed the time accorded and for this reason he was disqualified by the referee.

The referee needed stitches in his lips and the Taekwondo federation will probably look for legal actions against the Cuban athlete.

“It is an insult to Olympism, an insult to the spirit of taekwondo and an insult to mankind,” Jin Suk Yang, the secretary general of the World Taekwondo Federation, said last night at a news conference. “On behalf of taekwondo I express my regrets.”
